Often it can be difficult to know when our roof is failing. Fortunately there are clues to look for.
​The following are signs that may indicate that your roof needs replacing:
​Missing or cracked shingles

• Blistering or peeling paint
• Shingle, sheathing or siding decay
• Leakage in the attic after heavy rains
• Stains on interior walls or ceilings
• High energy bills
• Shingle edges are curled or shingle tabs are cupped
• Bald spots where granules are missing
• Your roof is at least 20 years old; while many shingles today are produced for durability, many factors can accelerate the aging of shingles.

Pittsburgh winters are unpredictable.  One day it is 40 degrees, the next so bitter cold that schools close. We can have 2 feet of snow and have it all melted a day later. ​When the cold weather arrives in PIttsburgh, that doesn't mean you have to wait until spring to get that new roof.  You can schedule your roof replacement during the winter months.
A qualified, knowledgeable roofer will know when and if any extra steps need to be taken to properly apply asphalt shingles in various temperatures and conditions.  If a problem develops over the winter, leak or weather damage, it is better to get it checked and repaired or replaced instead of waiting until warmer temperatures. By that time a small issue might be a big problem.

There is an advantage to getting a new roof in the cold season. Roofers are usually less busy and will likely be able to get to your job sooner and with more manpower than in the busy spring and summer seasons.
